You mentioned 'Hair' as the start of Focus. true, but the Thijs van Leer trio also played the instrumental part of 'Oh Calcutta', (I have the single at home in Canada - it was on Ariola, a German label) - the same trio also played with Ramses Shaffy, a Dutch singer (died recently). I have seen Thijs live, when backing Shaffy being taped for a TV show. He was absolutely amazing. I remember it vividly, now more than 40 years ago.
When I saw him live a few years (with Pierre van der Linden on drums) he seemed only to have aged a bit. still very energetic and impressive!

Hi, what an impressive collection. I only have 2 focus albums so far, but recently got a blank white test pressing of Jan Akkerman + Kaz Lux "Eli" It has handwritten track listing on the cover with a stamp of the record # on the cover. The record is unlabeled. It's in very good shape. I'm wondering if you are interested in purchasing it. thanks.

Hi. I noticed you got into Focus after watching the Rainbow concert on Norwegian TV. I lived in Oslo for the first 5 months of 1974. I saw the Rainbow concert on TV while I was there. Perhaps the same broadcast you saw. More importantly. I saw Focus for the first and only time at Chateau Neuf during my stay in Oslo. I don't remember the date, but they played Hamburger Concerto material and it was before the album was released. Maybe you saw that concert too.

Webmaster comments Hi Rajeev! Nice to hear from you! I think the Rainbow concert was broadcasted only once in Norway, so it is very likely the same event. And yes, I was definitely present at the concert in Chateu Neuf. I saw them in Oslo a couple of times later during the 70s as well, but the concert in Chateu Neuf was absolutely the best.

I am also a die hard Focus fan and have a good collection of recordings but nothing so spectacular as this, it's so nice to know that there are others in the world who have been so moved by the music of this superlative band.

Well done! As I'm a fan of Focus and in particular the compositional abilitiy of Thijs van Leer I'm very grateful for the collection you present here, cause it serves as the most complete discography of Focus I've ever seen. Congratulations -keep going!
